MY POV
In this lifetime, I aim to use my creativity not just to decorate our world but also to uplift others and our planet.
I create with the intention of bringing people together, especially during such a divisive time. I want my creativity to inspire others to be authentically themselves, and to feel safe and excited doing so.
I hope my ideas and creativity plant seeds of hope, empathy, and good vibes in people’s hearts. I want to remind people that we are not separate from nature or from each other, and that we all exist as one.
WHAT INSPIRES ME:
1. Film: The Matrix
This film inspires me because the main character escapes the confinement of everything he believed to be true. I apply this to my daily life as I aim to challenge my beliefs, question social systems, and think creatively outside the box.
Also, this film is just awesome, and I love the futuristic cyber style and aesthetic.
2. Ending Overconsumption
On a personal level, the images of overfilled landfills inspire me to be more intentional behind my purchases and waste decisions because we are all a smart part of a wide collective. We can make an impact against climate change and the degradation of our home, one choice at a time.
On a career level, this reminds me that I don’t want my work to contribute to overconsumption, as advertising and capitalism are the backbone of the climate crisis.
3. Bad Bunny Winning Best Album of the Year
This moment was so beautiful and inspiring to me because it hit so close to home.
Bad Bunny came from humble beginnings, as did I. To see him call out colonialism, stand up against ICE, and win a Grammy for an album entirely in Spanish during a time when people like him and I are being targeted by our government is so moving. Bad Bunny inspires me to be unapologetically myself, and he shows me that I don’t have to water myself down to be successful and fulfilled.
4. The Fibonacci Sequence
This is a geometric ratio that is abundant in nature. To me, it symbolizes the interconnectedness of the universe
It inspires me to recognize and appreciate the harmony of nature and our universe, and how we fit into that, too :)
5. “Collective Effervescence”
I absolutely love music (and I love to dance, as you can tell on the right). I recently found out about the term “collective effervescence,” which describes “the intense, shared emotional energy and sense of unity that arises when people gather, creating a feeling of being part of something larger than themselves” - sociologist Émile Durkheim
Every time I go to a concert or DJ show, I am overwhelmed with this feeling, and it inspires me because it is a feeling I hope to evoke with my work: to show people that we are all one.
6. Anthony Bourdain
I am so inspired by Bourdain’s love and passion for travelling, food, and humility.
His approach to using food as a bridge to connect with others worldwide inspires me by reminding me that, despite us having differences, we all share universal commonalities, and a plate of food, just like music and laughter, is more than enough to bring us together.
